Music Notes

Greetings, all, and welcome back! I'm making a couple of changes to the Music Notes, which before now have only been available in the Sunday bulletin, My decision is to also have them printed in the weekly edition of the Happenings. The Prelude is the main change: rather than have the Prelude begin at 10 o'clock, my proposal is to play the prelude before 10, as in the past.
So, I'll not only print the title and composer of the Prelude, but also the length of time it takes. A few people have mentioned over time that they would like to hear the whole work, but that would lengthen the service, sometimes a lot, so I will put the length in the Happenings, and begin the Prelude that amount of time before 10 am. Which is what I used to do, often playing most of it to an empty church! Might still happen, but if it's a piece that you want to hear, at least you'll know when it begins!

From the Summit Interfaith Council Anti-Racism Committee:

Visibility into the deaths of Black men and women at the hands of police has awakened more (White) Americans to the reality of structural racism and its various forms of oppression. As a result, many White - and some Black – community members have expressed a strong desire to engage in honest, difficult conversations about race and injustice. Dialogue Circles on Race presents one such opportunity. Dialogue Circles have been offered since 2015 and have reached more than 500 community members in central New Jersey.

A Dialogue Circle (with 6- 15 participants) meets for five weeks, for two hours at a time. Co-led by trained facilitators, the group members discuss challenging readings, learn to listen deeply to one another’s experiences and move forward in their individual journeys toward understanding and dismantling structural racism. A shared commitment to attending all five sessions ensures that participants will experience the full curriculum and can develop trust and connection within the group.

If you have not yet participated in Dialogue Circles on Race, you can sign up for Curriculum 1.0 here1.0

If you have already participated in Dialogue Circles, consider signing up for Curriculum 2.0 with new readings and even more powerful conversations here ‌ ‌2.0‌.

Registration ends September 8, 2021.

On Sunday, August 29, sixteen years after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, Hurricane Ida made landfall in the same region. This Category 4 storm brought flooding and damaging winds that caused a loss of water to hundreds of thousands and a loss of electricity to over 1 million people. Episcopal Relief & Development is working closely with the Diocese of Louisiana and other regional partners in what will be a long-term response. Your generous gift will help alleviate suffering for the most vulnerable residents impacted by Hurricane Ida. Please visit episcopalrelief.org/hurricane-relief to make a gift today.
