Invitation to a truly Holy Week!
On Sunday, April 14th we begin our Holy Week journey. We will walk the streets of Chatham on Palm Sunday, with our traditional bagpipe procession, hailing Jesus as our King. On Maundy Thursday, the cheers will turn much more solemn, as Jesus contemplates his impending death, shares in the “Last Supper” and gives his disciples the commandment to love. We will enter the depth of Jesus’ pain and sorrow on Good Friday, as he is crucified on the cross.
These services – Thursday, April 18th at 7:30pm and Friday, April 19th at 7:30pm – are remarkably powerful because they help us better understand and know Jesus’ presence with us in all of the breathtaking experiences of our lives; the times when we are betrayed, or lost, or fearful, or desperate.
In our world today, when so many of us and those we know are hurting for countless reasons, I hope that you will join me for these services, and perhaps practice courage by inviting someone you know to join you. There is nothing more real or authentic than Jesus’ love and presence with us in our pain, and Holy Week gets to the depth of that love.
Of course, Jesus’ resurrection will be hailed and celebrated on Easter Sunday, April 21st! This joyous day is the reason we can embrace life – and death – with true hope. Join us at 10am for our festive worship, then stay for a special celebration and Easter egg hunt for the children.
