Congregations that approach financial stewardship from a biblical perspective do not view the money Christians give merely as a way to pay bills. Rather, such congregations see financial contributions as a way to help people grow spiritually in their relationship with God by supporting their church’s mission and ministry with a percentage of their incomes. Instead of treating people like members of a social club who pay dues, we, the people of St. Paul’s, are followers of Christ who give unselfishly as an act of faithful discipleship.
We have designated Sunday December 2, 2018 as our Consecration Sunday. We will have one combined service at 10:00 that day during which members will be asked to complete a pledge card for their financial commitment to our church’s worship, missionary, benevolent and educational ministries in this community and beyond. Speakers in the weeks leading up to Consecration Sunday will give testimonials and information to help members prayerfully discern what level of commitment God is calling each of us to make. Following the December 2 service, we will have a celebratory catered brunch in the Parish Hall. Since this is the first Sunday in Advent, everyone is also invited and welcome to enjoy our Advent wreath-making event as well!
At our services on November 18 and 25, we will ask attendees to fill in reservation cards indicating whether and how many family members will attend the brunch. We need this in order to know how much food to order. If you will be unable to attend services on either of those days, please let Mary Jo at 973 635 8085 know whether and how many in your family will be attending.
Thanks in advance for your enthusiastic participation in our upcoming
Consecration Sunday events!
